THERAPY, EQUINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY
Katie Ross-McGinnis, LPC
My approach is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and collaboration. I work with individuals across the lifespan, helping them navigate the complexities of trauma, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and disconnection from self. Whether you're rebuilding a sense of safety, working through preverbal trauma, or simply looking for a more embodied therapeutic experience, equine work can open new doors to healing.
I integrate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) into my work, supporting clients in developing deeper understanding. One of the unique aspects of my practice is offering Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. For many, healing begins with reconnecting to the body, and working with horses offers a powerful path to that reconnection.
I believe therapy is a place where all parts of you are welcome. My role is to walk alongside you, offering tools, perspective, and a safe relationship that helps foster real and lasting change. Whether we’re in the office or in the barn, I meet each client where they are, integrating evidence-based practices with deep attunement to your unique experience.
Canine Friends
Captain and Thor are the beloved four-legged friends of Above It All Counseling Group (AIACG), offering warmth, emotional support, and the kind of joy that only a wagging tail can bring. These gentle pups are more than just therapy dogs—they're true companions on the healing journey.
Having faced their own challenging start during the first year and a half of their lives, Captain and Thor understand what it means to navigate big feelings and complex emotions. Because of their resilience, they bring empathy, comfort, and lighthearted energy to every session, helping clients feel seen, safe, and supported.
When they're not at work bringing smiles and comfort, you can find them snuggled up for a cozy nap or out on a favorite hiking trail soaking in the sunshine. Captain and Thor remind us that healing often begins with connection—and sometimes, that connection has fur and four paws.
Equine Friends
At Above It All Counseling Group, we are honored to partner with six incredible horses—Dolly, Minnie, Filly, Mia, Libby, and Ace—in our Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy program. These retired reining and cutting horses, once athletes in their own right, now dedicate their lives to supporting others on their healing journeys. Each of them brings a warm, gentle, and uniquely intuitive presence to every session.
Horses are powerful partners in therapy. As highly sensitive animals, they respond to human emotion and energy in real time, providing immediate, honest feedback and creating a safe space for clients to explore their internal worlds. Interacting with horses can help individuals build emotional awareness, self-regulation, trust, and connection—all without needing to speak a single word.
Whether you're navigating trauma, stress, or life transitions, our equine friends offer a nonjudgmental presence to help you reconnect with yourself in new and meaningful ways. Dolly, Minnie, Filly, Mia, Libby, and Ace can't wait to meet you and walk alongside you as you discover your own path to healing.
Founder of CC Cattle Co. and Community Partner of AIACG
Sam Cooke
Sam Cooke is the heart behind CC Cattle Co., a local nonprofit dedicated to feeding the Madison community by raising and donating cattle to Second Harvest Foodbank. A Madison Firefighter Lieutenant and long-time public servant, Sam’s commitment to helping others is deeply woven into everything he does.
Sam and Katie, founder of AIACG, have been friends for over a decade. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sam founded CC Cattle Co. with the mission of healing his community—body, mind, and spirit. His vision of care extends beyond food security; he graciously supports AIACG’s equine-assisted psychotherapy program by offering a peaceful and welcoming farm space where individuals can reconnect with themselves through nature, horses, and livestock.
When you visit the farm for equine sessions, don’t be surprised if you spot Sam nearby—he’s always happy to say hello and is a friendly, grounding presence on the land. Whether he's fighting fires, feeding families, or fostering healing, Sam is a pillar of strength and generosity in the Madison community.
